Updates, and what "two years of updates" means

Updated October 1, 2026

Treadle updates itself in the background, like a normal Mac app. A paid licence includes two years of feature updates; after that, the version you own keeps working. Security updates are never withheld — they install regardless of the two-year feature-updates window.

Checking for updates

Treadle updates itself using Sparkle. You can also check by hand:

  1. On the Mac, click the Treadle icon in the menu bar.
  2. Choose Check for updates….

What two years of updates means

A paid licence includes two years of feature releases from your purchase. During that window you get new features as they ship.

After the window:

  • Your current version keeps working. Nothing stops.
  • You stop getting new feature releases.
  • You can renew for more updates. See What's free, what's paid.

Security updates are never withheld

Security updates are always delivered, no matter where you are in your updates window. A lapsed updates window never holds back a security fix.

If an update does not appear

  • Make sure the Mac has a connection when you check.
  • Open the menu-bar popover and try Check for updates… again.
  • If the engine has stopped, choose Restart engine. See the concepts page.
