Activate, deactivate and move to a new Mac

Updated October 1, 2026

A paid licence is unlocked with a key you enter on the Mac. Activation is checked offline, so it keeps working with no network. One licence covers one Mac; the iPads and iPhones you pair to it are unlimited, and you can move the licence to a new Mac when you need to.

Activate

  1. Buy on the website. You get a licence key by email.
  2. On the Mac, click the Treadle icon in the menu bar and open Licence.
  3. Choose Enter key… and paste your key.

Once activated, Treadle verifies the key offline and keeps working without a connection.

Deactivate

Deactivating frees the seat so you can use it on another machine. Open Licence on the Mac and deactivate there.

How many Macs

Each licence covers one Mac. The iPads and iPhones you pair to it are unlimited.

Move to a new Mac

  1. On the old Mac, deactivate. If you cannot reach it, ask support to release the licence.
  2. On the new Mac, install Treadle and activate with the same key. See Install Treadle.

Keep your key

Keys are not stored on our side, so a re-send is a fresh key, not a copy of the old one. Keep the email with your key somewhere safe.
