Treadle is built so there is very little to disclose. There is no account, the app sends us no telemetry, and it talks only to your own Mac over your local network. This page says plainly what is and isn’t collected.
The app
The Treadle Mac app and iPad panel operate entirely on your local network. They do not create an account, do not phone home, and do not send us your configuration, your actions, or any usage data. Your decks, buttons and settings stay on your own devices.
Checking for updates contacts our update feed to see whether a newer version exists. That request carries only what any file download does — it is not tied to an identity, and we do not build a profile from it.
This website
This site sets no cookies and asks for no personal information. If we measure traffic, we use a privacy-preserving, cookieless counter that records aggregate page views only — never anything that identifies you.
Buying a licence
Purchases are handled by our payment provider, which acts as the merchant of record. When you buy, you give your payment and billing details to them, under their privacy policy — not to us. We receive only what we need to issue and support your licence, such as your email address and order reference. We never see your full card details.
Activating a licence
When you activate Treadle on a Mac, the app makes exactly two kinds of request in its life: to activate, and to deactivate. Activation sends your licence key, the version of the app, and a one-way salted hash of a hardware identifier — never the raw identifier itself, which never leaves your Mac. The hash lets us count how many Macs a licence is active on, so “three Macs per licence, deactivate one to free a seat” works; it cannot be turned back into anything that identifies your machine. After activation the app verifies your licence offline, on your Mac, and never contacts us again — turn off the internet and every paid feature keeps working.
