Uninstall Treadle

Updated October 1, 2026

To uninstall Treadle, quit the app from its menu-bar icon, then drag it from Applications to the Trash. A small support folder is left behind; you can remove it too for a completely clean uninstall, or leave it in place to keep your settings for next time.

Remove the app

  1. Click the Treadle icon in the menu bar and quit Treadle.
  2. Open your Applications folder.
  3. Drag Treadle to the Trash.

That is enough to stop Treadle running. With the app gone, the engine no longer runs, so paired devices can no longer trigger actions. See the concepts page for what the engine is.

Optional: remove the support folder

Treadle leaves a small support folder on your Mac. Removing it is optional. If you want a clean removal, delete it too.

Permissions you granted

The permissions you granted stay listed in System Settings under Privacy & Security. You can turn them off there once Treadle is gone. See permissions for the list.

Your licence

Uninstalling does not deactivate your licence. If you are moving to a new Mac, deactivate first so the seat is freed. See Activate, deactivate and move to a new Mac.

If something went wrong and you are uninstalling to start over, email support@gettreadle.ca first — the fix may be simpler.

Questions & answers

Does uninstalling delete my decks?
Not unless you remove the support folder. Your decks and settings live there; deleting just the app leaves them intact.
Will my licence be freed?
Deactivate the licence first if you plan to use it on another Mac. Uninstalling alone doesn't release the seat.
