Pair your iPad

Updated October 1, 2026

Pairing links an iPad to your Mac so it can trigger actions. Each paired device gets its own key, which you can revoke later.

Before you start

  • Install the Mac app first. See Install Treadle.
  • Put the Mac and the iPad on the same Wi-Fi or network.
  • Install the Treadle app on the iPad.

Pair the device

  1. On the Mac, open the menu-bar popover and go to Devices (or use the pairing step in the first-run wizard).
  2. Choose Add a device. The Mac shows a six-digit code.
  3. On the iPad, open Treadle and type the six-digit code.

The iPad finds the Mac automatically over the local network, so you do not type an address. If it cannot find the Mac, see The iPad can't find my Mac.

Revoke a device

Open the Mac's Devices window and remove the device you no longer want. Its key stops working right away. The device can pair again later with a fresh code.

How many devices

You can pair as many devices as you like. The number of devices is not limited by your licence. See What's free, what's paid.

Once paired, learn the words Treadle uses and build your first deck.
